Lekov’s house – museum, town of Panagyurishte
Ivan Lekov’s house in Panagyurishte was built after the Crimean War and was painted in 1873. The owner, a wealthy merchant, was a rebel activist and a participant in the April Uprising.
The house was visited by the Apostle of Liberty – Vassil Levski.
Apart from its historical value, Lekov’s House is also a valuable monument of revival architecture. The extraordinary mural decorations inside and outside the building was executed by the local master Ivan Zografov, skillfully combined with richly polychrome woodcarving on the ceilings, doors and cupboards. The southern façade is richly decorated. There is a domestic scene depicted on the eastern façade, with the owner himself included in it.
The interior is splendidly decorated with murals and polychromated wooden elements. In the large hall, on its eastern wall, is a painting that is quite rarely seen in house decorations – “the wheel of life” representing the life philosophy of the era.
Lekov’s house is a cultural treasure with national significance.
A complete renovation of the building, facades and interior has been performed.
